Just updated iOS this week and my iPhone 13 Pro Max just shut down while it was plugged into the charger. Have tried multiple times to do a hard restart, volume up, volume down, and hold the side button, with no success. iOS failure?

Complete black screen, have tried multiple chargers and connecting to iTunes with no luck.

Does anyone else have this problem? If I choose to mail it in for repair it says I have to turn off the find my phone option or the repair will be invalid. So what options do I have?

If you have spoken with Apple support directly and the suggestion is to send in for physical inspection/repair/replacement then you need to do that. Yes you have to turn off Find My especially since they may be replacing your device. But if they are aware that it won’t power on it seems like they would advise on options or wouldn’t require it. Otherwise, check to see if there are any authorized repair facilities for Apple in your area (for example, Best Buy is one in my area).

  • iPhone XR Glitch?Yesterday my XS completely blacked out. I couldn't get it to power back on. I looked online and something suggested hitting the volume up button quickly, the volume down button quickly and then holding the power button until it powered back on. This worked, but now my phone will not charge when plugged in - it will only charge on a wireless station, which I do not have right now. Is this something with the newest update, or do I need to take my phone into Apple to get repaired or replaced? 7301
  • my iPhone XS randomly shuts downmy iPhone XS randomly shut down while I was using it and every time I tried to turn it on the apple logo would show up for a few minutes before the screen would go black again. I tried this a few times until the phone showed me the screen that tells me I need to charge my phone. I put it in the charge and it said it was charging and has been for 2 hours now and yet it will not charge. I tried force restarting it. I tried using my laptop but iTunes won't identify it. I tried putting it into recovery mode but it won't work. I don't know what to do now because it isn't backed up and I really don't want to lose everything [Re-Titled by Moderator] 951

Troubleshooting iPhone or iPod Touch Charging Issues When your iPhone or iPod touch won't charge or experiences power-related issues, it can be frustrating and concerning. There are several concepts and potential solutions related to this problem, as evidenced by the user interactions you provided.

Software Update Impact

The user's experience of their iPhone 13 Pro Max shutting down after updating to iOS may indicate a potential issue with the software update. This suggests that the update could have caused a malfunction that led to the device shutting down while being plugged into the charger. It's important to consider the impact of software updates on device functionality and to be aware of potential issues that may arise following an update.

Hardware Inspection and Repair

In cases where the device does not power on or charge, users may need to consider physical inspection, repair, or replacement options. Apple support may advise sending the device for physical inspection, repair, or replacement, especially if it fails to power on. It's crucial to turn off the "Find My" feature to facilitate the repair process. Additionally, users can explore authorized repair facilities, such as those available at Best Buy, to seek assistance with their device issues.

Power Outage and Device Behavior

The experience of a power outage while charging an iPhone 11, resulting in the device constantly cycling between the Apple logo and powering off, highlights the potential impact of power interruptions on device behavior. This scenario raises the question of whether the power outage caused the device malfunction and the need to explore options for restoring the device's functionality without resorting to a complete restore.

Charging and Connectivity Issues

Users encountering issues with charging, such as the iPhone XS only charging on a wireless station and not through a wired connection, point to potential hardware or connectivity issues. This situation may require users to consider repair or replacement options, especially if the device fails to charge despite various troubleshooting attempts, such as force restarting, using different chargers, and attempting to connect to iTunes.

Data Loss Prevention

In the event of device malfunction and the need for potential restoration or replacement, users may express concerns about data loss. It's important to emphasize the importance of regular backups to prevent the loss of valuable data in case of unexpected device issues or failures.

In conclusion, troubleshooting charging and power-related issues on iOS devices such as iPhones and iPod touches involves considering the impact of software updates, exploring repair and replacement options, addressing connectivity and power outage issues, and emphasizing the importance of data backup to prevent loss. These concepts demonstrate the multifaceted nature of addressing charging and power-related challenges on Apple mobile devices.
